I would like to know where the Login Username and Password is located for my ADMIN and Host. I recently upgraded my site to DNN 4.5 through my hosting company...EasyCGI...and have locked myself out in the process! EasyCGI is great, but they can't help me with my problem. I can still login to their site and use their control panel to access everything, but I have no control on my own site. Am I making any sense? Does anybody know what to do to correct this? I have downloaded a backup of all my database files and DNN files. Now I am ready to search for the problem and correct it! Thanks! Lonnie

My guess on your issue is that you didnt carry the machine keys over to your new upgraded site.  Make sure you carry over this part

    <machineKey
      validationKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902"
      decryptionKey="F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902F8D923AC"
      decryption="3DES"
      validation="SHA1"/>

The password is stored encrypted so you cant get it out of the db without the keys.

Dear Philip Beadle,

Thanks for the response! I'm trying to understand your answer and would like to know where this is located. Specifically located. Where is it...what file? Is this on the database? How do I get there to change or make sure it's like your answer? Forgive me...For I'm just a beginner and somewhat lost. OK...Totally lost! Thanks for being so patient. Lonnie

Ok, when you upgrade the framework of DNN there is a file in the zip that you downloaded called release.config.

You need to copy the machine keys as shown above from your exisiting web.config file into the new release.config file.

Once you have done that and also transferred your database connection strings you then rename the release.config file to web.config and then copy all of the files from the unzipped location to your web site which triggers the upgrade automatically.

If you have already done this and not transferred your machine keys you will need to get them from a backup you have and transfer them so that DNN can decrypt the passwords and allow you access to your site.

Philip,

Thanks for the help! I found the release.config and copied the machine keys and the database connection strings from the web.config like you suggested. Renamed the release.config file to web.config and saved in the original dnn folder from the zip file you had me look in.

I have two questions before I go any further and screw something else up. Will I need to include both the release.config and web.config files in my dnn folder that I'm going to upload? My last question is can I just upload the new dnn folder or do I have to upload the entire folder selection like aspnet client, bin, cgi-bin, db, logs...and so on? By simply uploading these files this will trigger the upgrade automatically?

Thanks again for taking the time to help a kook like me...Who knows, maybe somebody else out there is experiencing the same ploblem and will learn from my incompetence. Ha Ha! Oh well...I know it's lunch time for you and Lorraine. Thanks again for your help! Cheers...
