I'm a newbie and my sql2000 database keeps growing out of all porportion to the usage of my DNN portal.  Is there a) a reason? b) a cure?

I do not understand why I end up with a 100MB growth per week

Is it the transaction log that is growing astronomically?  I have to yield to the big boys as to why that happens, but truncating the log from time to time keeps mine manageable. My db was ~18M and before I discovered truncation, my log file was 70-80M and increasing at an increasing rate.

look for the size of the translaction log file - if it is small (few mb), you successfully truncated it.

Check how the autogrowth of your DB files. By default SQL Server will use by 10% for your the log file. This means that when your logfile is 80MB and space is needed it will grow to 88MB even only 1KB is needed. So how bigger the log file, how bigger the growth.

You can change it to grow by 1MB. This will slow down the log file taking up space. If needed you can restrict the growth to a certain amount of space, but i don't know what happens if that amount is reached, because I haven't tried that yet.
