Here is my configuration:

Everything on my local machine.
XP Pro SP2
IIS
SQL Server 200

After trying DNN 4.0.2, I gave up and decided to try a 3.x version.  After about 2 tries, it installed (no errors in the install).  When I click on my "Click here to access your portal" link, I receive the following error:

I have tried searching Google and the forums.  I didn't find anything except a link to a MSFT article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810098/en-us).  I did all the steps, still doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you start with a clean fresh database after the times that it failed? That might cause it. check your portalalias in the database also, there should only be one entry in it.

This is just a guess no my part.  :)

Cheers,

Yes.  After every failure, I deleted and recreated the database.

Here's an additional piece of information:  I decided to try another reinstall.  This time, I noticed that my Installing screen had an error on it (I didn't notice that before).  Look 2nd from the bottom at 00:00:20.546 -   Portal failed to install:

Anyone have any ideas?

On the advice of a coworker, I have uninstalled and reinstalled .net.  No change
He watched me go through the install steps to confirm everything was going ok.

We boiled it down to a rights issue of some sort.  I've found several articles about this on the MSFT site; however, they haven't worked

Anyone have any ideas?
