Hello,

I hope it's okay to post this kind of question here.  I thought it would be best to pose this directly to experienced Dot Net Nuke developers and users.

We are considering Dot Net Nuke for a large-scale website - with the strategy of rolling out several (tens of) microsites in the future.  The idea is that new white labels/microsites/affiliates could be rolled out quickly and efficiently (and cost-effective) from the original (reskinned and re-tooled).

On one hand, the pre-built modules and extensibility appeal to us... but on the other hand, I am concerned that many of the larger-scale websites I've seen that use DNN are also utilizing a CMS (custom developed or otherwise).

Does Dot Net Nuke require a CMS addition to be effective in managing large-scale applications and to allow more efficient maintenance of multiple websites?  What of version control (my understanding is DNN does not have this) - or other features not typically included with the framework.

We are comparing several other options - Ektron is on the top of the list (of greatest appeal is that both developers, advanced users and non-web staff could use all at the same time ie. ability to use MS Visual Studio, Dreamweaver or WYSIWYG editor) - but admittedly the price tag is far greater than Dot Net Nuke - however a minimal investment based on our go-forward strategies.

Any thoughts??

DotNetNuke is an Application Framework, that allows flexible adoption by modules, providers and skins. The current version does not provide centralized workflow or staging support, if this is a need for you, you might need to add modules, that support this feature.

I think that leupold really hit the nail on the head with the desciption of DNN.

If workflows and release processing (typical CMS items) are of major importance to you then yes you will need to either look at third-party modules or possilby look away from DotNetNuke.  However, I also know many sites that manage administration without these tools...  It all depends on your internal business requirements
