I am looking at moving my University off of Ektron cms400 to DNN. For the CMS core functions I have two choices:

DNN and a good 3rd party CMS
-OR -
slaving Ektron through DNN

The former means a pain-in-the-keister migration of content, but also means we can completely get away Ektron and avoid their maintenance fees.

The latter means wrapping up Ektron in custom modules and taking advantage of Ektron's versioning, archiving, approval chains, etc.

To help me make my decision I need to evaluate the best DNN CMS modules out there.  Our University has 150 content contributers in the CMS, so the following features are really important: Approval chains, versioning, editing permissions, document management, per content block user-defined fields, user managable forms, etc.

I appreciate your recommendations.

MMerrick,

You're going to be limited in what you're searching for as I don't know of a system that will do everything your looking for within DNN right now. We've developed a module called Engage: Publish that is a approval/workflow/categorization module within DotNetNuke. It is in use on www.stlouischildrens.org as well as quite a few other sites on the web.

It is a pretty hefty module and can be configured in numorous ways to fit most needs. If you'd like more information about the module feel free to give me a call. We've also done customizations to the module to meet individual client's needs so if you need custom development done that is an option for our module as well.

Chris

I have been looking around but so far I have found very few true CMS solutions for DNN.  I will definitely be calling you about Engage.  Does anyone else have a recommendation?

Hey Chris,

I just left you a message. Where can I find a feature list and product road map for Engage?

If you could elaborate for me why you would want to move from Ektron to DNN. I'm intensly curious as from my experience with both DNN provides less functionality, more complex support structure and much higher risk, especially for a university.

Can't understand the business logic. Seems like a make work project.
