Can anyone point me in the direction on how the DotNetNuke install works?

I need to be able to copy deploy a blank latest version of DNN with no portals and then install my custom modules and portal template as the first portal. I have searched the forum and documentation and found some information about modifying the xxx.install.config file (changing the InstallTemplate key in web.config) and making a portal template file.  I don’t see what I need to do with my custom modules.

I also need information on versioning my modules for updates.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well once you have modified the install.config file to point to your new portal template, you can put your modules in the proper folder under /install/ and they will be automatically installed with DNN.

Mitchel,

Thanks for your reply.

I created a Portal template of my portal and copied /Install/DotNetNuke.install.config and changed the name. After editing the file I then changed the <add key="InstallTemplate" value="MyCompanyPortal.install.config"/> in web.config.

This created my portal but no modules were installed. You are saying any packaged (zip) in /Install/Module/ will be installed automatically?

Can you point me in the right direction on versioning my modules for updating them after this initial install?

Also, I need to anticipate my customers having an existing DNN portal already for their company site and wanting to add my modules and portal template as a second portal in the same DNN database. Do you have any ideas about how to handle this scenario.

Much appreciated
