Hi,

I've been going through Michael Washington's tutorial to create a DNN module. (http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/Creating_A_DNNModule.asp)

This is an excellent tutorial for beginners. However, being a beginner to DNN, it does not explain the codes, and what each line of the code means. I guess I'd have to study each line myself...

When I cut and pasted the codes (as instructed), I got numerous errors in VWD, which I can't seem to get rid of.

Would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me.

  1. Element 'Label' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site.
    • "..\DesktopModules\GuestBook\ViewGuestBook.ascx"
  2. Name 'lblAddMessage' is not declared.
    • "..\DesktopModules\GuestBook\ViewGuestBook.ascx.vb"
  3. Property 'ConnectionString' is 'ReadOnly'.
    • "..\App_Code\GuestBook\SqlDataProvider.vb"

Can anyone help?

I'm trying to learn how to create a new module, but kept getting stuck.

Thanks very much.

I've followed the instructions and kept getting a whole lot of errors. Realised that I needed to lookout for linebreaks.

Now, I'm completely stuck with this error in "..\App_Code\GuestBook\SqlDataProvider.vb"

Please help.

Thanks!

Property 'ConnectionString' is 'ReadOnly'.

I don't know about Michael Washingtons tutorial, but when I was learning how to develop modules for DotNetNuke I used a set of videos created by Todd Davis.  They are a really good set of videos for someone who knows nothing about module development.  I would suggest that you watch them and try to do his example.

Hope this helps
