We installed a version of DotNetNuke to our test server, connected it up to a test instance of SQL Server 2000 and it all worked perfectly. Now, we have to copy the installation over to a new server in the DMZ. The database will remain in the same place, but the application will be moved. We copied the files over to the new server, and fired up the application. However, we now receive this error:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Simple fix I thought as it just looks as though the two servers can't see each other. However, upon talking to our Firewall team, it appears as though the correct procedures are put in place to allow the server to talk to the database server however there are packets going through port 1290 which have been blocked as the firewall team have deemed this a vunerable port (which I agree with from some quick searching on google). What I don't understand is why anything is being routed through this port. Does anyone know if DotNetNuke does something specific with this port and why?
