When I started with DNN, I had these problems also.

I ended up creating a localhost web site using the Starter Kit installed in Visual Web Developer (Visual Studio Express.)

After I created a new web site, I executed a build by pressing Ctrl + F5.  This build took a few minutes, but when it was done, Visual Web Developer automatically ran its internal web server, then opened the web site in my default browser.

If I try to view the web site without running the internal web server in Visual Web Developer, I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error message.

If your error is with IIS I can't help because I could never get IIS to work reliably.

SK
