Hopefully this will help

I finally got it to hit my breakpoints in VS.

Here is the exact error that it throws.

It is on line 312 of PortalInfo.vb, when trying to retrieve the User Count for the portal

***************************** Exception Text  ******************************
InnerException = {"The type initializer for 'DotNetNuke.Security.Membership.MembershipProvider' threw an exception."}
Message = "The type initializer for 'DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.UserController' threw an exception."
StackTrace = "   at DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.UserController.GetUserCountByPortal(Int32 portalId)
   at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalInfo.get_Users() in C:\Development\DNNSource\DotNetNuke_04.06.02_Source\Library\Components\Portal\PortalInfo.vb:line 312"
TypeName = "DotNetNuke.Entities.Users.UserController"
*****************************************************************************

Here is the code in the PortalInfo.vb that makes the call

*****************************************************************************
<XmlElement("users")> Public Property Users() As Integer

Get

If _Users < 0 Then

_Users = UserController.GetUserCountByPortal(PortalID)

End If

Return _Users

End Get

Set(ByVal Value As Integer)

_Users = Value

End Set

End Property

*******************************************************************************

Please let me know if I can post any more information

thanks!

very strange, as it just calls the membership provider and the data provider. are you sure, your web.config has all necessary providers in place?

I assume so :-)  I took the release.config file and made it in to my new web.config file.

Here is my dotnetnuke provider section of the web.config file:

Do you see anything?  If not anything else I can post to solve this problem please let me know.

In the mean time I will continue to step through the source code to see what I can find.

Thanks!
