which Name did you change in web.config? please stick strictly to the upgrade procedure I mentioned before. this has been working for a number of users.

Sorry, I guess my previous msg wasn't clear. I followed the procedure as outlined and changed the name of "release.config" to "web.config". I made all the recommended edits to connect strings, machine keys etc.

My setup is not unusual in any way, Windows 2003 ent edition, standard MS SQL, latest release version. The harware is a quad Xeon Dell. The webserver itself is running in a virtual server on that hardware.

DNN runs fine, at version 462, but only if I use the 455 version web.config. If I switch to the 462 web.config (even when edited as recommended) it blows up the entire installation and requires a complete re-install of the code and the database. I have previously posted the errors it reports.

I suggest to find out the differences between both file versions (using a tool like winmerge) and identify the line, that causes the issue.
