I'm new to DNN but have a somewhat dated programming background.  I just installed DNN and the default DNN home page is associated with my URL.  I have yet to select a skin for the new site I am going to build but have been playing around with DNN creating pages, content, etc..  I have a few questions I have been unable find answers to and would appreciate any help anyone might be able to offer.

  1. Can the default home page be reassigned to another page that I create and if so how?
  2. Or, conversely, if I create a new portal, how do I reassign my primary URL to the new portal?
  3. Also, the panes in the default skin installed with DNN say "Visible by administrator only".  What is the point of that and can it be removed?  I have not been able to find how to do that though I've added content to those panes.
  4. Also, I can't see where you can change the font in a text/HTML module box.  Is that defined by the skin?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Tom H.

  1. Under Site Settings, expand Advanced Settings.  Under the Page Management section you can choose your Home Page.
  2. Under Site Settings, at the very bottom, is a list of Portal Aliases.  Here you can assign which URLs will be pointed to which portals.
  3. When you add pages, by default, no one other than the administrator is allowed to see the content.  If you go into the Page Settings, you can add the All Users role to allow all users to see the page, which will, of course, remove the message about only being visible to administrators.  If you're just saying that you already know that it's only visible to admins and you don't want to see the message, that's inserted by DNN, and there isn't much you can do to remove it.  Sorry!
  4. You should be able to select a font using the Text Editor control (there's a Font drop down).  However, most sites choose to put all style declarations in their skin.

Hope it helps,

Thanks very much for your help.  I had discovered a few of the answers but was still trying to figure out how to turn off the Admin Only message.  Thanks!
