I am an experienced 2003 Admin and .NET ASP Developer and am having a strange problem with DotNetNuke 4.0.6 Install (not a "Development Install") on: Server 2003 64 Bit (all SPs); IIS; SQL Server 2005 64 Bit (all SP's) and IE7.  The problem is that the "Custom" install (with most additional modules) goes "normally" and finishes without incident, and when I "call" the site (http://SystemName:100  and yes I have changed the "PortalAlias" data table to reflect the port change) I the browser "hangs" and will not display (as in will not move from the home page) BUT there is a related process running on the system which uses about 1/2 of the CPU (w3wp.exe running as "Network Service" runs and has been allowed to run for 2+ hours without ending).  The database is correct, the Permissions are correct, the "Network Service" user is setup on the Application Directory; the ASP application is set up correctly; I've set up many .Net Web Sites/Apps in 2003 and they all work, what is the issue here??

Did you set the "UsePortNumber" to true in the web.config file

Under AppSettings

<add key="UsePortNumber" value="true"/>

That was the problem, you are a genius.  At the risk of sounding (more) stupid, what should I read to avoid such stuff down the road with DNN?

Thanks so much.

Nah, had the same problem :-)

There is NO documentation about it.  I posted it a while back after I found the solution, but it still has not been added to the web.config file for an option, so you would have never known what you were looking for.

I was lucky...one of my developers stumbled upon it and that is how mine got fixed.

Glad I could help!
