We've installed 4.5.3 on our hosted website.  My site now points to <myhostingsite>/<me>/dnn.  I have 4 other apps installed at the same level as DNN.  Thus, I have <myhostingsite>/<me>/app1 (/app2, /app3, /app4).   App1 runs fine from URL Links within DNN.  App1 has no database and is mainly .html and .swf.  App2 is an ASP with its own SQL2005 database and is called by its URL plus /index.asp.  I can open it from my browser but not from a URL Link within DNN.  App3 is an ASP.NET with its own SQL2005 database; called by its <URL>/default.aspx.  This one gets the generic Server Error.  I used to be able to run it directly from my browser but have not been able to since installing DNN.  App4 is a .NET app, no database.  Runs ok from URL link within DNN but is slow-loading.

Also, my DNN website takes forever to load (30-40 seconds).  Even longer when I use my desktop shortcut.  My host says it's because DNN has 2800 files that all must be loaded into memory?

BTW, I'm running Vista Business on my local PC, 2gb RAM.

If you are running asp.net websites in virtual directories, you may have to ensure that you clear out any httpmodules loaded by dotnetnuke - this is an asp.net issue , not a dotnetnuke one (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms164632.aspx for the necessary syntax).

There can be many reasons why your website is slow to load, without looking at it I can't say for sure. However the most common items are (1) lots of unnecessary files in the bin folder, or (2) something on the homepage such as an rss feed that is delaying load. Your host is incorrect about dnn having 2800 files to load before it runs, files are loaded as requested, and the asp.net JIT compiler does an efficent job of ensuring that only code that is called is compiled and loaded into memory (the exception to this is the bin folder; i've seen some users who've tested dozens of modules and they're all still in the bin folder - merely removing the unused ones greatly helped)
