We're experiencing and posting several problems with 4.5.3 to which we're receiving no replies:

1) the most unnerving:  suddenly without warning and for no apparent reason neither LOGIN nor REGISTER work anymore; instead, the page simply refreshes.  Our hosting service has installed DNN four times, now.  Our work is trashed and we have to start over each time.  We see that several other people are having the same problem but there're no replies suggesting possible causes or solutions.

2) it takes several minutes for our website to come up for the first time each day; sometimes, it timesout and fails to come up at all.  Our host says "when DNN first loads, all 2800 files must go into memory.  Thereafter, it's fine."  Is this true?  Note: after the first load, subsequent loads come up quickly.

3) because of "1" we've had to go into our DNN database and do things manually.  For example, we deleted some of our own links and images.  But when we go back to our site, they are still there.  Is there some way we can "refresh" so that the deleted items will no longer appear?

4) the Guided Tour's dropdown list of available modules includes "Gallery."  Our site's list does not.  Is there, in fact, a Gallery module?

5) we have several non-DNN applications installed on our host just below our root (just like and on the same level as DNN).  We cannot get some of these applications to run; yet, they were running fine prior to DNN being installed.   The apps that are simple .html run fine.  The ASP.NET apps, particularly those with their own SQL2005 databases and default.aspx are giving us problems.  In some cases we can run them from our browser, but not from URL Links within DNN.

Of all the above '1' is the critical issue.  Can you imagine going through life wondering when you and your customers will no longer have access to your website?  All of the other glitches pale by comparison to this one.   Our hosting service is knowledgable and focuses on Windows/SQLServer.  We're running Vista Business on a loaded PC with 2gb RAM.

Quick afterthoughts:

1)   as best as we can remember, the LOGIN?REGISTER failure seems to occur after changing skins

2)  I just came in to look at this post upon its being approved.  First, our site is displayed although yesterday evening we either removed it or designated as "admin only" (is this a manifestation of '3', above?).  Second, upon being clicked it took 90 seconds to bring up the website (also see '2', above).

You say in your subsequent post

What skin are you changing to? Does it have the LOGIN token in it?

Try using SmarterPing available free from smartertools.com ASP.Net unloads after a period of inactivity (20 minutes I think). SmarterPing will "KeepItAlive"

There is a Gallery though it is not installed by default. I can't check at the moment but it may be available on the Host/Module Definitions at the bottom as an available module. Alternatively you may find it on the Gallery project.

Is http://crazybapa.com/ the site in question? If so is it running on WebHost4Life as suggested at the bottom? What plan are you on? Personally I lost a huge amount of time trying to get satisfactory results with WH4L. Eventually I moved to dedicated with PowerDNN and have not looked back since. No downtime, no problems = happy customers. I know others are using WH4L with some success.

First, thanks for your response, liffey.

Skins:  I merely switch basic DNN skins.  As I recall I went from fixed width to full page.  I also tried switching from blue to gray for Admin only.  I was just poking around to see the aesthetics.  I never got to the point of trying some of the optional "Marketplace" skins.  And, yes, the LOGIN/REGISTER links are present every time.

Loading time:  I'll try SmarterPing.  Thanks.  Another person corrected what WH4L had told me about loading 2800 files.  He/she said DNN only loads what it needs to which I said "phew!"

Gallery:  I'll check further

WH4L?  Yes, their best SHARED plan with what they call their "Turbo" option (faster servers).   My account was coming up for renewal.  I was interested in PowerDNN.  On three different occasions I complete CONTACT US inquiries on their website.  I never ever never ever received a reply.  HUGE disappointment because their plans appear clean, simple, and focused on what I need.

Did you go to my site by clicking the URL posted with this ticket?  Did it take an inordinate amount of time to load?

Finally, if it's just a coincidence that we lose the LOGIN functionality when changing skins (in other words that has no bearing on the problem), do you have any clue as to what's causing it?   One person did respond to me on this subject in a different post.  Here's what he (John Mitchell) said.  His login suggestion worked but the query threw up an error "there is an error in your query."  At least I can get in, but the problem persists.

Is it the crazybapa site you are having trouble with?

If so, try this link to Login : http://crazybapa.com/?ctl=login

It appears that your Login Page is set to go to TabId=0 which is not correct.

Once you login in as Host, go to the Host>SQL window and run this Query:

Update Portals Set LoginTabId=null, RegisterTabId=null Where PortalId=0

The LOGIN issue:  FYI for anyone following this posting:

After I was told that, for the 5th time in 4 days, I would have to reinstall DNN, I removed DNN completely from my existing site and opened a new one at a completely different hosting service.  We are starting all over.  Meanwhile, when I asked why the db keeps becoming corrupted I was told:

"For the DNN modules, the reason for the reinstall is needed would be the login module got corrupted and it's a known bug for the DNN that does not have any solutions to fix at this moment."

Since REGISTER/LOGIN are our visitors' first introduction to our company, I certainly hope my former host is WRONG!   But at least DNN is now isolated so that, if it goes down, our visitors can still access our stuff hosted elsewhere.   We move forward hoping all this DNN-related stuff settles down.  With 1000's of users I can't believe DNN's LOGIN function doesn't work, but we'll see, won't we.
