Ugh... why are things never as easy as they should be.. especially when there is a deadline to meet :(

So far no love with this code:

Using newFileWriter As New IO.FileStream(fileName, IO.FileMode.OpenOrCreate)

newFileWriter.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length)

newFileWriter.Flush()

newFileWriter.Close()

 End Using

I have tried it with and without the calls to flush and close...

I am truly baffled... I have never had this problem unless I did not close the file properly and it was obvious that was the problem... I am pretty darn sure that the IO code I have written is correct. I will bust out the MS training kit and double check the syntax I guess...

 Edit: Do we all agree that what I wrote is shorthand for this example here: http://www.123aspx.com/redir.aspx?res=32473 ?

I may try coping this in just to see what happens... also, I seen a few older articles about SOAP\DIME to upload files, does anyone know if this is still relevant?

Thanks again!!!

I keep finding this articles concerning the DIME format and the WSE toolkit for Asp,Net. I have not used the WSE kit before, does anyone have any experince with it or reasons why it could not be used with DNN. Here is an example: http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/090804-1.aspx

Also, after testing this weekend it appears that the file is locked for around 2.5 - 3 minutes. A friend of mine sent me some information that may be related: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms954592.aspx

Error in the Browser and/or Application Event Log

Errors may surface in both the application event logs and the browser. The responseDeadlockInterval attribute is a configuration setting in the machine.config file set to the default interval of three minutes. If the Aspnet_wp.exe process has deadlocked and the three-minute time limit has passed, the deadlock-detection mechanism in IIS recycles the process and posts the following error in the application event log: "aspnet_wp.exe was recycled because it was suspected to be in a deadlocked state. It did not send any responses for pending requests in the last 180 seconds." A Server Application Unavailable error is often received by the browser because Aspnet_wp.exe is not responding.

Again has anyone had any experince with this? Again its an older article and not sure if it still applies... any input is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Ian

That DIME stuff looks fascinating. Looks like you will be the one to tell us if it works :) Welcome to life on the "cutting edge".

Take it a step further, instead of DIME, try out MTOM.  (i personally haven't tested it but keep meaning to do so).

fooberichu,

This looks like the way to go to enable true file management functionality. However, there are some limitation to the technology we can implement due to the nature of DNN. Namely, editing the web.config file. This could prevent many people from using the module. Do you happen to know if you can added the necessary settings to a web.config file in the the same folder as the asmx file? For example, DesktopModules/IWeb/web.config and DesktopModules/IWeb/WEbService.asmx . If this is possible we may be able to use WSE, otherwise I am afraid it would be too much of a challage for most users to edit their config files.

I really like the idea you have suggested and hope we can figure out a way to make it work. Please let me know if you have any additional information.

Thanks!

Ian
