I was trying to setup a clients site so that they could charge $25 a year.  I realized in looking over the site it seems like something like that is already built in.  So I see there was an area for the payment setup.  But I am not sure how to make this work.  Ideally, I want a user that once the register, they have to pay via paypal the amount.  Can someone tell me how to use this?

Thanks

Christian

Essentially you need to setup the PayPal information in Host Settings, then setup IPN on your PayPal account. Then in theory it should work. Personally I gave up because it didn't do quite what I wanted. In essence I wanted one off payments (which didn't work), because the charge would change every year or so, and with PayPal subcriptions you have to cancel and make the users create a new one if you want to change the charge.

Instead I am using Catalook.netstore. I haven't looked at subscriptions in this, and don't know if it would automatically add users to a role, but it may be worth a look. Basically, I take payments on a yearly basis, and handle the adding/removing to roles myself. But then I only have 150-200 users at any one time, and the subscription year ends at one point in the year, so it's not too much of a bind.

Cheers
Roger

Roger,

Thanks for the information. I will try that out and see how it works.  Let me ask you another thing if you dont mind.  I have struggled with this a bit.  How do you integrate the process of registering and paying the subscription in one shot?  I can see using the standard registration piece, but then I was wondering how I then tell them they have to go to a new page to pay for the subscription then.  Or is it one shot?

On the product you mentioned, who makes that?

Thanks

C

I'm not sure you can, though others may know better. I think people have to register, and then when they are registered they go back in to their profile and can subscribe. It's not something I've played a lot with.

Catalook can be bought here - http://www.dnnsoft.com/, and there is a demo store here - http://catalook.net/.

Cheers
Roger

Roger,

I seem to have it working okay now.  I am not sure if you are doing this, but there is one last piece I am missing on my project. Mine is subscription based but people get credit for someone sponsoring them.  So I am trying to figure out how to give users an affiliate ID and when they have someone sign up, that person as to enter their affiliate ID somewhere and they are given credit.  Do you do anything like that?

Thanks

Christian
