New to DotNetNuke and MS SQL 2005.  Trying to install a local version on a Windows Vista machine and followed the directions on www.adefwebserver.com.  I successfully set all of the permissions and created the database.  The DotNetNuke directory is in the root directory on the local machine.  When I try to install dotnetnuke through the web browser I get the following error page:

DotNetNuke Error: - Version 04.06.02

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

The connection string in the web.config is as follows:

<add
name="SiteSqlServer"
connectionString="Server=HOME-PC\SQLEXPRESS;Database=dotnetnuke;uid=dotnetnukeaccount;pwd=<removed>;"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
<appSettings>

Any ideas as to what could be creating this error?  Have I missed something?  Any help would be great.  Thanks.

In SQL Server Management Studio, right click on your server in the object explorer and click properties. When the dialog comes up, click on Security. By default, Server Authentication is set at "Windows Authentication mode". You will want that to be the other option "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode".

Not sure if this is your exact problem, but verify it to rule it out.

You rock!  Something so simple yet easily overlooked.  That did the trick.  Thanks.
