I am comparing DNN to the opensource content management system Mambo (PHP implementation).  In mambo, it is very easy to add content to pages (the actual text/images/links that represent the body of the page).

In DNN, it seems the only things you can add to a page are Modules, and there are only 5 to choose from (Account Login, Banners, Search Input, Search Results and User Account).

None of these allow you to add actual "content" to a page.  What am I missing here?  I thought part of the DNN concept was for the programmer to be able to "hand off" the website to the client and let them administer their own content.

Additionally, when I try to upload a new module, such as the "weatherchannel.dnn", it gives an error, even though the "Module Defininition Validator" said it was valid:

Invalid File Extension For Custom Module weatherchannel.dnn

Given that this is open-source, are there any free tutorials on DNN out there that can guide a newbie through these basic steps?

I would recommend starting here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/guidedtour

"Content" is a very generic term... there are module to do all kinds of things from simply displaying an image to managing inventory and processing online sales.  The single most frequently used module ( which may be what you are after ) is simply the HTML / Text module which displays the very WYSIWYG editor that you used to enter your post.

I don't see a "HTML Text" module or any type of "Image" module.  There are only 5 modules in the "Module: <Select a Module>" dropdown

1. Account Login

2. Banners

3.  Search Input

4. Search Results

5. User Account

I installed the Visual Studio DotNet starter kit version 4 (latest version).  Is the starter kit a crippled version?  Why would such basic modules not be included?

How do I add the modules you mention?  It seems my install is missing quite a bit.  Just for giggles I re-installed the starter kit last night, and created a new DNN website and I still have the same 5 modules.
