Why have the feature i DNN 4 then ??

How do a regular user know what modules are rel3 or 4.

I think you have to talk with the developer in this matter.

If you can compile it or not is a different story.

Jan,

as far as I understand, this feature has been included for module developers, not for admins to repackage installed modules. While switching to the new installer I vote to suppress this feature for installed modules, to prevent copyright frauds and prevent irritations (see http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Default.aspx?p=2&i=6749).

What this have to do with Copyright frauds I dont understand.

Maybee a text "will not work for rel 3 modules" or somthing will bee informative.

Or dont use this feature for rel 3 :)

I asumed that it should work.

A regular host could try to use it just to remove rel 3 modules to remove the dlls to get better performance and later understand that the packages are not usable.

as thay are listed in module for installation.

By the way there are a little funny way replacing _ with ( and ) in that part.

Sorry, Jan, now I don't understand.

Creating module packages is a feature provided for Module developers, and IMO shall not be available to other users.in an DNN 4 installation, you can create DNN 4 modules but not DNN3 modules. IMO it is a great advantage, to be able to use DNN 3 modules in DNN 4 (we both remember all the difficulties in the 30 for 3.0 program) but of course, this cannot include module creation. Besides, DNN 3 modules do not take advantage of the fascinating new DNN4 features like TokenReplace (added by Stefan and me) and we have an interest, that new features are adopted - isn't this a fair demand?

Maybee its a feature made for module developers but availible for all host users. Most host users are not module developer. A regular host user do not make modules but install and uninstall modules.

As the new standard puts the module package in INSTALL folder its rather easy to think that it should work to install it too.

What this have to do with new features I dont understand, I have almost all modules in Net.2.0 and testing in 3, so thats not my issue. Ive just realized that this function didnt work as a regular host user would expect and this in a customer case. You cant read everything with your own eyes you must try to put yourself in a  regular users chair.

If you dont see any cases that this function are useful for regular host users I could give you some cases but I am sure you see those too if you think a minute or two.

So in my opinion a text telling which modules it works for plus information telling the status of the module regarding this shoud be the optimal solution.

And maybee INSTALL folder isnt the right place to put it if it just for module developer. I dindt know there was a new installer in plan so lets hope this installer have this in mind.

And still I cant understand your Copyright fraud issue. Im rather good In Copyrigh issues too by the way.

Anyway  I have done my job letting you know now I cant do more. I know how it works so I am not getting any trubble.
