Hello,

I have set up DNN application (3.0.9 version) on a shared web hosting environment. We get an error as follows:

An error has occurred writing to the exception log(D:\Webs\car148\Portals\_default\Logs\Application.xml.resources). The permissions are not set properly on the log file or directory, or the log file has been marked as READ-ONLY.

Message = Access to the path "D:\Webs\car148\Portals\_default\Logs\Application.xml.resources" is denied. This may be a temporary problem so try refreshing yout browser

The shared hosting suport people told us that they chose not to allow setting write permissions on directories that start with an underscore a couple years ago. We tried renaming the "_default" folder but was unsuccessful. It gives "file in use" error. But we need write permissions to "portal/_default/logs" folder.

Is there any other way I can handle this? Any suggestions are welcome. I have been trying to set this up on a shared hosting environment for a long time now and so far no luck. any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Waiting for the suggestions

3.0.9 is old BETA software.  The 3.x series did not have its first PRODUCTION release until version 3.0.13.  I would highly recommend a newer version ( 3.2.2 is really nice ).

The "_" issue has to do with old FrontPage baggage, doesn't it?  In order for DNN to work correctly... your host is going to have to grant permissions on your entire web root ( to the ASP.Net Worker Process identity ).  If they can't do this, you might need a new host ( and yes, it can be done safely despite what some hosts might say ).
