I've moved my production environment on to a test box and want to provide a rule to map my production domain name to localhost on my test machine.  ie. www.production.org -> localhost. All I want to do is remap the domain name. I could not find any documentation on the syntax for the rewriter rules in siteurls.config. Basically I want a rule that works like this

<lookfor>www.production.org/*</lookfor>

<sendto>localhost/*</sendto>    but I would believe I need to use some parameter to resolve the position of the asterisk on this line.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peter

Why are you trying to remap the domain name? If this is for development/testing, you can just add the "localhost/[virtual directory] portal alias to your test/dev database.

John,

Yes, it is for testing. localhost was added as portal alias, also host header for localhost was added to IIs. Many pages work fine, but many others do not resolve to localhost and remain as www.production.org. Note that we have used references within our configuration using the URL reference to direct to another page. ie a 'read more' on an announcement may link to a URL that is prefixed with www.production.org/... which is back into our web site. I just want to replace any http traffic that is prefixed with www.production.org with localhost.  Is there a documnet on the syntax for siteurls.config anywhere? Is there a best practices guide on migrating a standard test DNN environment to production?  Many thanks, Peter

Figured out what I was doing that effected my testing, there was no need for me to change my siteurls.config to get things to work (as John stated above). The source clearly states that you can not replace the domain portion of the string anyway. I did shoot myself in the foot each time I tested because I was afraid I would touch my production system so I disabled my network interface. I didn't define a static IP address to be associated with my domain name so I would get a 404 error for anything prefixed with my production domain name. After changing the production domain name to my loopback IP address in my host file everything worked great. Thank you John for pushing me in the right direction! Peter
