Hi Rob,

You don't need the fix to give users add event. You need to:

  • Give a security role the user is in, edit access to the module
  • Have a visible container round the module, since Add Event is a module action
  • If 'Control Panel Security:' is set to Module Editors in Admin Settings, they will need to click the Edit radio button at top left of screen
  • If 'Control Panel Security:' is set to Page Editors in Admin Settings, then the Add Events option should be available.

Cheers
Roger

    Roger,

I have almost all of the users being able to add events based on the workaround mentioned. The issue that I'm having is that if someone previously had the ability to see the View/Edit/Design panel and selected View, apprently view is now their default. If I change the Control Panel Security to Page Editors it helps greatly with some of my more...computer challenged...coworkers. However, anyone that doesn't page edit rights doesn't get the add event button because their default view type for the control panel is set to View. I need to know of a way to force everyone to be set to Edit. If you'd like, I can try and walk you through what I'm talking about happening.

    Thanks,

    Rob

    Hi Rob,

I can see what the problem is, I just don't know how to solve it. Not sure this is and Events module issue, since it would be common to any module.

    Sorry
    Roger

Hate to revive a 6 month old thread - but my site(s) are event driven and have gone from me hosting just my own to now hosting other members sites.

I have been pulling my hair out - because I do not want the control panel displayed to those given the module Edit feature.

I can't figure out how the three display buttons for month, week, or view get added (I am C# not VB and usually do everything in code).  However, if those get populated on the pages - is there a wrapper that can be written to add the ADD Entry to a page in View mode?  Blog Entry module does just that (Add Blog - and shows in View Mode) and I tried something similiar but did not work.  Even tried modifying the EditEntry (assuming that is the ADD as well)...

I simply do not want all of the Admin Controls visible so they can select to add an entry.  Lastly - there is no option to change to Page Editor after create and populate anything to my knowledge...

    Hi Jody,

You never need to make the full Admin Control panel visible to users (at least not as far as I am aware). The only way this should happen is if you make someone a page editor, which you don't need to do to give someone Add Event in the Events module. Users only need to be Events module editors to be able to Add Event.

The control panel can be set to be visible at two levels, for Page Editors or for Module (and Page) Editors. I think by default it is set to Page, but I may be wrong. In any case, if you set the control panel visibility to:-

    • Page - By default users should be in Edit Mode (I believe), or at least that is how it has worked on all my sites. If not, you may need to switch it to Module, allow people to change their Edit Mode, then switch it back.
    • Module - All that should be visible for someone with edit rights to a module, is that View/Edit radio buttons should appear at top left of the screen. That is all, and people can flip mode.

All this said, we have changed the way the module works in the next release (which I really hope is soon), so that you no longer need a module container, or to be in Edit Mode for this to work.

    Cheers
    Roger
