"You should use tables for tabular data and divs for the rest"

IMO at least 95% of the skins can be done without tables.

These two statements are inaccurate. You can use standards compliant css/xhtml 100% of the time and should. Never use tables for layout structure. Ever.

Second, you shouldn't just "use divs for the rest". It's worth reading up on semantic html and learning what tags to use where

Hey Joseph, I was being political...

I wrote "at Least"...

Also we where talking about tables vs divs for basic layout, not menus, headings etc...

I am also talking about tables vs. div for basic layouts. My point is that getting rid of tables shouldn't stop at just replacement via the div. Once you realise that DIVs + CSS is the way to go for basic layout, then keep going and find out what other tags are more appropriate for their content.

Yes, but don't forget... and maybe I'm wrong... but regardless of your layout choice (Table/Div) a good majority of your modules still export using tables which in my experience always blows a Pure CSS skin all to heck.

Now, I'm not saying not to go PureCSS, I've got projects that I'm working on that use a pure method, but nothing that's production as the end result isn't "stable" enough at the moment. I'm not proud to say I still use tables heavily for production but for the time being, speed of production > pure CSS since most my customers want a website that's functioning and they want it yesterday. Now, should a client specifically state he/she wants / has a need for a pure CSS skin I would without a doubt put one into production but it would add to the overall development / debugging time involved (as cross-browser compatibility becomes way more unpredictable in my experience).

That's true but I would hope we could encourage .Net developers to stop using the basic IDE drg and drop controls and learn the markup of the client-side layer of their code.

Also, get the source and fix it to use semantic HTML : )
