Hi Folks,

I am running 04.05.05, and my website has been shut down by the database filling up.  I don't have Studio, so I need to contact the hosting company to truncate my database periodically.  Having this fixed would be a huge help to me.

Elisabeth,

need of truncating the database transaction log is nothing that can be "fixed", you need a frequent backup plan for your database, this will solve it permanently (and makes your data more secure).

Looking at the thread - my guess is that the SQL is timing out before the sitelog is cleared, especially as there are over 2,000,000 records.

Stored procedures run through the API have a timeout of 30 secs.  Scripts run through SQL Management Studio module have no time-out.

It would be useful to "test" whether executing the stored procedure from SQL Management Studio removes all the records as expected.  This should tell us whether it is a time-out issue (which cannot be fixed easily) or a bug in the script.

I expect it is the timeout - as it only appears to affect users with a large sitelog.

Charles, assuming the timeout is the problem, wouldn't the Event show as failed and the timeout exception text?

Thanks Charles, that was the kind of answer I was looking for.

Unfortunately, I discovered an alternative to the answer and just truncated the sitelog table before reading this. I wish the notification system for this forum worked then I would have tried that first.

Thanx

L Douglas
