I am moving my site to a new hosting provider and figured I would upgrade at the same time.  I spoke with the people at Power DNN - they told me that my site would most likely be broken upon upgrade from 3.1.1 to the latest version.  I realize I would have to upgrade any third party modules, maybe my skin - haven't heard from them yet....  Rebuilding the content would be a job, but do-able if the core modules don't update correctly.  What I'm worried about is having to have over 400 users re-register and losing my forum data.  I don't want to stay at 3.1.1 and pay for premium hosting - seems silly.  If anyone can give me some advice from a similar experience, I would be grateful.

Thanks.

Brian I would pull down your site and database to your local machine and test out the upgrade. See what works and what doesn't work. You might luck out and most things will upgrade fine.

What forums are you using on your 3.1.1 site?

Thanks Chris,

I asked PowerDNN if they could upgrade in incremental steps.  You have a good idea though - I'll try that as well.  I'm using Active Forums - they told me all I have to do is upgrade to a newer version upon upgrading DNN

ActiveForums should upgrade fine. Some of the older unsupported forums though might have been an issue.

PowerDNN also should be able to get you running nicely, they definitely know their stuff.
