My first 4.7 install on a new host completed successfully, but any attempts to access the site are redirected to domain.com/install

I've done a bit of poking around but couldn't see anything unusual. A search for similar issues on this forum uncovered several unanswered posts on the topic.

Any clues on what to look at?

if you cannot access the site, I would not call it a successful installation. I suggest to start from the scratch, usually searching the issue is more time consuming.

The problem is that I have tried reinstalling 4.7 twice with the same result. This morning I wiped everything and tried installing 4.6.02 (a version that I have successfully installed on this host before). Same redirect problem.

I was finally able to resolve this issue, here are the steps:

  • Wiped the database and files on the remote host to begin with a clean slate.
  • Created the database, setup the web.config and uploaded files the usual way (basically, I followed Mitch's great write up )
  • Launched the www.domain.com/install/install.aspx and was redirected to the "Under Construction" page. I've had this issue before, so I just kept reloading the page... the third time was teh charm and the install process began.
  • The install completed with no errors, but trying to go to the site's main page resulted in a redirection to the Install directory.
  • Looked at the PortalAlias table and saw that the entry was www.domain.com/install
  • Removed the "/install" and tried again several times, but still received the redirection.
  • Tried accessing the site via www.domain.com/default.aspx?tabid=36 and was able to get in.
  • Added a new portal alias for domain.com in addition to the now corrected www.domain.com alias that already existed.
  • Now, I was able to access the site via www.domain.com or domain.com

So, it looks like there might be a combination of little glitches in the install... adding "/install" to the initial PortalAlias table entry being the main culprit I would suspect.
