I am reposting this from another forum by suggestion:

DNN 4.00.2
I have skinned a site in VS2005, set everything up and used "Build>Publish Web Site."  Copied the 'published' site directory to my IIS6 webserver.  Setup the site in IIS6 etc., the site works. (somewhat)

I noticed that the 'Terms of Use' and the 'Privacy Statement' were blank.  I logged into the site as 'admin' and tried to go to the 'Languages' to see if everything was blank.
I get the message with the red exclamation point "an error occured."

I have completed these steps for three sites, and they all encounter the same issue.

What am I missing?  Is there a special way you have to deploy DNN to a webserver?'

Thanks,
ChasDW

Additional Info:
It appears that the 'Admin' menu functionality has been broken, not just "Languages."  I tried to go look at the log files and get the same thing.

Please HELP!

Ended up deleting the site, rebuilding and just copying the site instead of 'publishing.'

Thanks,
Chas

I am having the same problem, the copying of contents of PrecompiledWeb onto II6 breaks certain things on the Host management side, I haven't looked into what else is breaking. Any ideas on how to compile source and move the the site to production server? I don't want to copy source to production.

Thanks for your help

I found that the reason is that App_GlobalResources is removed when the site is compiled. I tried to add the folder using the solution in the following post but it did not work.

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/80/threadid/27731/threadpage/1/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Please answer the following Question. Is DNN deployable in a compiled form or not? if yes, then how do I over come the App_GlobalResources issue??

Thank you
