Hi Mike:  I have a new instllation of 4.07 and have the following basic questions:

In my DNN 4.07 Instances web.config, I see 2 sections pertaining to AD:

    1. <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory" />
    2. <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" />

The old "How-To" that you referenced in the pinned post says to uncomment #1 above and that implies commenting out #2.

However when I do this, I receive an error when I pull up the site:

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (E:\Inetpub\wwwroot\BIReportsWeb_DNN_4_7_0\web.config line 64)

Source Error:

Line 62: <httpModules>
Line 63: <!-- FD: UNCOMMENTED FOR AD -->
Line 64: <add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" />

However, when I comment #1 out and leave #2 commented in, I experiencing other stange behvior....

Is there a more recent post on setting up AD on 4.0.7???

Thank you, Fletcher

Reverse your comments so that the one near the bottom of that section is the only one uncommented.

For the most part that seems to be the only hitch in the instructions.  At least it is the only one I can think of.

Impersonation is likely a necessity if you are on Windows Server 2003.

Thanks for the info. Then, it would appear that I need to comment out the section in the Web.config pertaining to FORMS secruity and uncomment the section on Windows security with impersonate = true.   What do you think?

Thanks for the help,

Fletcher

No Fletcher, it actually works better with Forms authentication. What you may have to do though is use impersonation. If you find the section that commented out that starts with <identity impersonate="true" />, uncomment that line only, and change it so that it reads as follows <identity impersonate="true" userName="domain\username" password="password" /> it should work for you. You will also have to give the user account that you are using for impersonation the same rights on the DNN install that the Network Service/ASPNET account has.

Thank you all - That worked nicely and I appreicate all the help.  I had to recall how Forms Auth collaborates with impersonation.....

...Which will help with the next issue and that is I need to look down several sub-folders that have PDF's in them that I don't want anyone but Authenticated Users to access.  I plan to start a new thread on this.

Thanks again and Best Regards, Fletcher
