I have a folder with files (.wma files) on my domain that after setting up roles to only be viewed by a authenticated user. That after logging out, I can simply type the address into a browser for that file and the file will play. Is there any way to grant authentication to a file?

I would also like to change the listed address when the file is playing to something more user friendly. How would I go about that?

An example file would be: http://www.mydomain.com/CMS/Portals/0/Demo/ProductionVideo/DemoProject/Demo3/Demo3.html(or.wma

Even though I have the folder Demo3 set to only be viewed by certain users, anyone with the address can view the file.

A similar question has been discussed in thread "flash training presentations secured in DNN".

Thanks Michael,

Checked it out. I tried creating a secure file folder and then upload a file into that folder (.wma file) and before the browser finished with the upload I would get the nasty "Cannot dislpay page" before completion. Any other suggestions how one can provide a authorized secure viewing of a .wma file?

Thanks

What's the exact error message?

[EDIT:]
If your file is larger than 8 MB, then have a look at this thread: "Upload doesn't work for a big file"

Micheal,

Thanks for the above link. I'm able to upload the files now. Had to do the same as in the link - Increase file size and add timeout parameter.  One more question. dnn will not let me upload certain file extensions (.html for example). Where would I change this parameter to allow for a wider array of files to be uploaded?

Also, I have a lot of files to upload and this method isn't the fastest. I want to test the .resource ext attached to the file to see if it helps with the security issue I stated above. Is there a way to attach this .resource ext without uploading from the file admin?

Thanks,

Fig
