I have perused the many choices on Snowcovered for the posting of news articles and I am not seeing one that seems to fit the bill for what I am looking for. If you have any suggestions that are 'out of the box' modules, or you think you might be able to design something like I outline here, please let me know.

Proposed News Master Module

The purpose of this module is to allow for a series of links to articles from external sources, newspaper, radio, tv, youtube, event, press release, report, other websites, etc.

The module will allow an admin to add an item that has the following characteristics:

Date published
Date added
Added by
Title
Description (200 characters)
Source (Name of newspaper, organization, etc.)
Source url
Photo thumbnail
Category (Environment, business, politics, health, etc. - check all that apply)

Other possible features
- Comments, number of reads
- Calendar would allow people to add events

When the item is added it will also be added to the another module on another page.

For example, a newspaper article:

Quimby, others tout Katahdin land deal
Millinocket-area representatives joined Gov. John Baldacci and conservationist Roxanne Quimby on Monday to celebrate a land deal that will open 11,500 acres in the Katahdin region to snowmobilers and other recreational users.  (Bangor Daily News, 12/12/07 - posted by Will Sugg)

If the article had a business component as well that category would have been checked and the article would appear in date order on anohter module on the Business page, as well as the Environment page.

The article listings would automatically go to an archive section after six weeks.

Subscribers to the service could choose to have a daily digest  (or immediate) email sent to them with all articles added in a certain category (or categories). The email would not include hotlinks to the articles' original source, rather send them to the news page it is located on where Newsmaster resides.
