Regarding the questions about email space.  Typcially most providers have separate space limitations for e-mail that are above and beyond the limits for your standard site space.

I've got around 50 portals on colocated client servers, but was looking for a simple place to put my small personal site.  I tried ihostasp and the service and response time was horrid.  Switched to Webhost4life.com and haven't been any happier.  Page load times are frequently 60 to 90 seconds.  If I complain it improves for about a day.  I'll take a look at powerdnn based on this thread....

I now have 5 hosting plans with powerdnn.com.  I think 3essentials is close but not quite there. With powerdnn I get:

  • Dedicated Application Pools - you don't have to ask for it
  • Unlimited FTP Accounts
  • Unlimited Bandwidth
  • Extremely fast support from people who specialize in DNN (DNN benefactor so they get the releases 4+ weeks before anyone else)
  • Plesk Control Panel that will do just about anything including backups of my site that I can download
  • I can access my database via SQL Enterprise Manager
  • Top of the line servers that aren't overloaded - my sites are fast

I have been with them for close to two years now. I sometimes wish they offered a little more that 1gb disk space but other than that the experience has been totally hassle free and without a doubt worth every penny of the "extra" you will pay over the low cost providers.

I've used discountasp.net.  But, like many shred hosters, while discountasp.net advertises themselves as a DNN hoster, they put low limits on the amount of RAM available to each site because they load a lot of sites on each machine.  This might be OK if your site is very low volume, you are selective about what modules you load and don't expect much growth.  But, if you go over the limits, you'll notice that your application is being restarted alot - to the point where it is so slow that it becomes unusable.

If you're higher volume, you might want to look at semi-dedicated hosting.  I've used WebHost4Life.com semidedicated and been relatively happy.

I ran a large site with thousands of users on a $10 shared plan with Websecurestores.com.  It was always fast and their support is good.  I only left them because I wanted a VPS account which they did not offer.  I needed the extra features of VPS when I expanded.

However, If  you want a cheap shared account they are very good.
