I want to copy a module from one page to another.

Joe Brinkman blogged on how to do this by manipulating the database.

Is there a simpler way? A way to do it through the DNN interface? I only want the module to appear on the pages where I copy it to. Not on every page.

Thanks in advance.

When you're signed in with page edit rights and can see the toolbar at the top, click the radio button that lets you add an existing module to the page. Then it will populate the lists with a source page and then a selection of modules on that page. The copied module is a copy, meaning it shares its content with the source module.

Another way to move a module without copying it is to go into the module settings and look for the option in one of the sections that says "Move to page". Select a destination page and hit update to move the module.

And then of course there is the option in module settigns to display on all pages. Tick that and it'll be copied everywhere, inlcuding to newly created pages.

And then you can also create a new page and select a source page to copy modules from.

And then you can also look into creating a template from a page with modules and use that when you create a new page.

That shoudl be plenty.

One more worthwhile suggestion? If the module supports import/export (text/html does, among others), then you can export content from one module, then import the same content to another instance of the same module type. As an alternative, copy the content from the editor when in source view, then go to the new page and module, and paste the code to the editor when also in source view.

What this gets you is the ability to copy a modules content, then work back to what you need it to be on another tab somewhere else. Really handy for when you have some tables that were a bear to put together.

Of course, if you're doing this ALOT, maybe it's time to look into creating some special Fck Editor templates. There's a "template dropdown" in the editor where you can quickly drop in starter content (such as intricate tables or whatever) and hit the ground running.

HTH,
Eric
