I created a DNN site using the starter kit in Visual Sudio 2005.  Everything went well and the site work fine on my local machine.  I want to publish the site to our company intranet but when I do using the Publish Web Site feature in Visual Studio 2005 only some of the folders and files get published.  Does anyone know why this is?

The following are the folders and that did not get published:

App_Code

App_GlobalResources

Global.asax

I did notice that there is a PrecompiledApp.config file in the published sites root folder that is not in Visual Studio.

DNN does not support being published (precompiled) currently.  To install you web site simply do an xcopy/copy your DNN directory for the site you want to install to the new server.  Then setup the site in IIS and you should be ready to go.  The one thing you will have to do is make sure that the alias for the URL that will be used new server is entered in the alias table.  You can do this logged in as host and under portal setting add the alias that will be used for the new server, or you can add it to the alias table directly using SQL Management Studio after you move the site.

Is there any way to publish precompiled code? I have to create a module, compile code and then publish the compiled code to a production web server. So what options do i have? Download the Source.zip, starter kit.zip or installer zip?

I appreciate your time.

Once you create your module and setup the module definition for it (host -> module definiton) you can click the link to create the package for your module which you can install on your production site.  Wether or not the source code is installed or not depends on whether you write you module to using the WSP module project or WAP module project.  You might have to do a little manual manipulation to create the non-source package for your module, I always use WSP so I am not any help on that front.  Do a search for WAP in the blogs / forums and I am sure you will find quite a few resources to help you .

The easiest way is to create your module using the WAP module project and then create your package under the module defintion screen.

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for your quick response to my questions. I have a few more question which is when i run the DNN Install 4.8 .zip it installs without any errors but the files installed are not compiled. For  example, the Default.aspx.vb has uncompiled code and I do not want uncompiled code on a production web server. So is it possible to compile the Install code and then publish it to a production web server w? If i can do this then can i also add a new module to the Install website code and then Republish the code to the webserver?

            Thanks  in advance.
