Hello,

I have been asked to write a custom module for DNN by my employer. I have never worked with DNN before. I downloaded the source and opened up the SLN for VS2005 / .NET 2.0. Right out of the box I tried to build the project and got 20 errors and 20 more warnings. This doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence in me regarding the DNN product. Can someone shed some light on the situation?

Thanks.

What were some of the errors and warnings? Quite often I find that it's as simple as a lost reference or running a Rebuild All fixes any errors.

If you are new to DNN Development I don't recommend using the source. You never want to change the DNN Source code. I recommend you start here:

Super-Simple Module (DAL+) (C# and VB)

This will show you how to use the install version of DotNetNuke to quickly create a DotNetNuke module.

I'm staring at 45 warnings in Visual Studio 2008 (and I'm using the install version of DotNetNuke). The Core will get around to clearing all these up...

However if you're getting errors then see Mike's advise above.

Mike Horton,

There errors do sound like they are probably multiple lost references: "Name 'Config' is not declared" , "Name 'LogException" is not declared" , "Type 'PortalController' is not declared" , "Type 'PortalInfo' is not declared", and on and on. All errors are triggered by the Global.asax file.
