I have no doubt that subsonic is a great program. However, I have been advocating LINQ to SQL (and then LINQ to Entities when  it comes out) because it is built into ASP.NET 3.5. Anthem was a popular AJAX framework before ASP.NET AJAX came out. Now it holds over 70% of the .Net usage:

I suspect it will eventually be the same with LINQ vs. subsonic.

Thanks to all for replying.

For manman, a user control is an ASCX file. The Visual Web Developer help has a nice tutorial on it.

As for SubSonic - I've found two projects called SubSonic (at least I think they're separate). One on Codeplex, the other at subsonicproject.com.

Ultimately, I' not sure that Subsonic is what I'm after at the moment as Jim has suggested that (while not the DNN "way"), it's perfectly legitimate to continue to implement my current DAL.

So my final question (for now) relates to the need to store the ModuleID (as per the tutorial that Michael Wahsington has provided the link for). I understand that this module ID is created by DNN and stored in DNN's own database and used by DNN to identify messages to and from an instance. As these apps I need to port are single instance only, do I still need to include a ModuleID field in my data store?

Thanks again to all for your responses.

Mike

if your module needs to store the data per module instance, you will include the moduleID per row, to identify the module instance, the data belongs to, as all module instances usually share a single database table.
