I ahve a brand new installation of DNN 3.2.2 running on a W2003 server. No other DNN has ever been installed on the machine. I have the "Admin/Authentication" tab visible, and when I go to it, I get the following error:

"The default authentication provider specified in web.config is not configured properly. Authentication settings are disabled."

Now, I have read pretty much every post on the subject, and no matter what I do, I get this error every time. All the fields on the page are disabled, so I cannot do anything with it. I would like to use the built in DNN AD, but it is getting to the point where we are looking at other solutions.

Any idea what I can do? I have already done everything that I have been able to find to resolve this issue.

(edited post)

Here's my suggestion: even though this is not an upgrade, have a look at the ModuleSettings table.  From the upgrade instructions:

Change the value of  ProviderTypeName
from   DotNetNuke.Authentication.ADSIProvider, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ADSIProvider
into   DotNetNuke.Security.Authentication.ADSIProvider, DotNetNuke.Authentication.ADSIProvider

(and my followup to this step)  Restart IIS after this change

and see if that helps?

I installed the Source zip. This is currently just on my development environment. So are you saying that I should rebuild the provider in an attempt to get it working correctly?

I have a question, did you install the source ZIP or the install ZIP?

I have noticed that the DNN 3.2.2 source ZIP file has an authentication provider with VB and build files in the providers folder, while the install version lacks an authentication provider folder entirely.  I'm about to redo an upgrade from 3.0.13 for the 3rd time.  The first 2 times, I used the install version and once all the processes are complete I do have a working portal with no error messages, but I don't have the Admin/Authentication option, which is why I thought I would ask.  Perhaps also bring this problem to the attention of the managers, if if can be verified as a problem?

Thanks,
Roberta

I figured out what was going on. In the web.config, the following line is normally commented out:

<trust level="Medium" originUrl="http://localhost/.*" />

In my web.config, it was uncommented. When I commented it back out, the Authentication error went away, and the whole thing worked perfectly.

I'm glad to hear this worked - I have realized that the install version has the DLLs in the bin folder, where they belong, so it's not necessary to have the source on the site unless you want to read the code and try to figure out the behavior.
