Hi,

Can anyone please help?

None of my users from any of my portals can log in. Even when they try and do a password reminder it says that "There was an error retrieving your password. No password was sent."

I have managed to reset the Host password using direct database access. I created a new user and copied and pasted the password and passwordsalt values to the host account. This now allows me to log in BUT none of my other users can??

Can anyone suggest what's happened and how to fix it please?

Really urgent as you can imagine!!

Thanks

Trev

make sure, you keep the "machine key" from previously used web.config file!

As mentioned above it sounds like an issue with the MachineKey and ValidationKey values that are stored in the web.config file.

I would validate these values against an older copy of your web.config.

Hi Guys,

Firstly, thanks for reply. Ive been racking my brains about this for hours.

It HAD to be some kind of low level problem. It didnt make sense that everybody would get locked out. It had to be a security feature that had been triggered without me doing anything. Which lead me to the same conclusion, it must be something wrong with the keys in the config file.

Background.

I have not touched anything on the file system of this install for months. I almost guarentee the machine keys havn't changed. BUT, maybe the hardware has?, without me knowing? Im with Fasthosts in the uk on a shared hosting platform. Have they moved my virtual site to a different physical server?

Even if they have, does anyone know if it matters anyway?

If it does...

Can i regenerate the necessary keys? Is there a way to check if they are wrong?

I have access to backups but if the hardware has changed and i know the web.config hasnt, then surely these are useless?

I've got the same problem! Does anyone have a solution?

Is it possible to regenerate the original machine key?

if not, is it possible to reinstall DNN which generates a new machine key an use the old data tables? This would mean that i have to set up the user accounts again, but ok.

or is there another possibility?
