I am excited to announce the release of mobiNuke 1.00.06 Beta, a module that makes DotNetNuke portal mobile device friendly.

Here is a summary of features:

  • Separate skins for mobile experience. You can set different skins that will be applied when the site is accessed from a mobile device. This will not change the skin for desktop browsers. Skin designers can now develop mobile friendly skin sets together with desktop skins.
  • Mobile devices access the portal through a lighter page. Anything that is not needed by a mobile device is cleaned out.  The content type and MIME type are set to specific values for mobile browsers.
  • For each page, you can enable or disable any existing modules for mobile context.
  • Support for mobile versions of existing modules. Developers can extend their modules for mobile context.

Marian,

This is something that could be HUGE for DNN adoption!  Which mobile devices have you tested this on?  Have you had good results?

Do you have an idea of the desired price point in the end for this?  How many risks do you think that this pose to core upgrades in the future?

Vitaly,

This version on mobiNuke uses Infralution licensing system to monitor the number days of evaluation. This is done through a registry key/value, so it needs access to registry.

Mitch,

I tested with more than 30 devices on RemoteyAnywhere including Motorola Q, Blackberry, Nokia70 but not iPhone yet.
I will post a list of devices tested on my site, although it could be very long.

I have not decided on the price yet.(Any input on this I would greatly appreciate. ;o) I was initially thinking of open source, but the development especially testing for such software can be quite costly. I think it would be best to be commercial and try to support itself unless there is an interest from DNN team to add this to the core.

I will announce some kind of rewards in terms of licensing for anyone who provides valuable testing and feedback.

I try to keep the risk of interfering with future versions of DNN and its core at the minimum. This has been one of my goals since day one of development.
