Hi,

I'm going to do my first upgrade. What I need to know is...

Are the upgrades cumulative or do I need to upgrade to each version. I want to go from 4.5 to 4.8

I use a number of 3rd party componenets... is there anything special I need to watch out for?

I understand that all I need to do is copy the upgrade files over the existing files, modify the webconfig, and then restart the sit... anything else?

Thanks,

Greg R

Upgrades are cumulative.

Ideally you would make a backup  of the site and database and test the uprgrades in a non-production environment so that you could verify that all the 3rd party modules work.

I can't stress this enough, make sure you have a backup of both the website and the database before starting the upgrade process. Copy the upgrade files, open the release.config and copy your connection strings, machine keys, and any other significant changes you may have done to your web.config into the release.config. Make a copy of your web.config (just in case) and save the release.config to web.config (this ensures that you've got the latest changes that the core may have added to the web.config).

As mentioned above, backup and TEST, then repeat the process, you can't be too safe.

I have tutorials on how to backup your site as well as how to upgrade your site http://www.mitchelsellers.com

With your third party modules, I would check with the vendors if possible to ensure that they don't have any known issues with a specific version of the core.
