I am trying to improve the performance for my DNN site. In looking at the config file I see the EnableCachePersistence setting. In every item I have been able to find it forums and blogs this has been left to false. What does EnableCachePersistence=false change.

Related to this, how does one go about improving the cache for a DNN 4 site.

Hi Mike... was wondering if you ever found out what that setting does... I'm interested as well.  My issue is that if nobody hits the site, I get an "application shutting down" in the event log... when somebody hits it, the log will say "application started".  I'm trying to figure out how to keep the thing cached and running at all times, since when it starts, it's very laggy and takes a good couple of seconds before the site even comes up.  Was hoping this setting might help... Please let me know if you found any good material on tuning and improving the cache on a DNN 4 site...

Thanks!
Mike

EnableCachePersistence tells the cache to use the file system instead of memory.  This setting is mainly for web farm setup, but it can help a little on the application startup since the cache can be built directly from disk instead of from scratch through the DB.

The problem with the application cycling down and needing to be restarted on the next visit can be solved by using some type of Keep-Alive.
