Hi,

We are evaluating DNN and its skinning possibilities for a website site relaunch. Can someone answer me the following questions:

  • Is it possible to split up root menu level from other menu levels so a menu layout like on the site www.nexplore.ch is possible (root menu level is at the top, other menu at the left)?
  • Is it possible to have activated visually the selected menupoint (see also www.nexplore.ch the menu is implementet as we intend to do)?

Thanks in advance for any hint!

Benno

The short answer is yes on both accounts. For one of my clients, one of the requirements was to implement a predefined look and feel. After playing with SolPart menu, I quickly determined that it wasn't even close to being feasible. I simply had to do it myself. It's not hard, it can just take some time wrapping your head around the logic, depending on how many levels you want to support with your skin. If you're only supporting two, it shouldn't be a big deal at all.

The best thing for you to do is copy an existing skin and start playing with it to match what you're looking for. You may need to create your own menu code, but if it's simply links with hovers, that shouldn't be a big deal at all. When working on the menu, look at the skinning doc and also check out the way the /admin/Skins/SolPartMenu.ascx control works. That's all I needed to get under way.

Benno,

There are various ways to realize this behavior.Depending on your needs, you may need another menu control, that is, in addation to solpart or as a replacement of solpart.
