make sure that anonymous access is enabled in IIS, otherwise IIS tries to authenticate the visitor with windows authentication

if you are on shared hosting then delete all the files in Portals\_default\EventQueue except EventQueue.config. You will need to do this every time you upload and install a module. The login is not for the dnn userid but the site control panel userid.

This is a problem wiuth DNN 3 upwards on sites using shared hosting. For some reason it was assumed that DNN would never be used on shared hosting.

The problem is that files are created in the directory during install of the dnn software and again with each install of the modules - these are supposed to be deleted but on shared hosting they are deleted before the autorisation procedure is carried out thus the reason for the control panel login.

If you simply cancel out of the login then you will get an error - if you then again call up the site it will work ok untill you install another module. You can write a small aspx file that deletes these files - just browse to this aspx after you install any modules.

all my clients are on shared hosting and this is a real pain in the butt. There are some threads on the forum about this problem and it is a problem - dnn should run on all forms of hosting out of the box. it requires changes to the hosting configuration that shared hosting providers will not change due to possible security problems.
