I began to write a simple visualizer using a DataList as I needed the ability to display a certain amount of items per row in a grid type format.  I've tried both installing this visualizer as well as just copying it to the visualizers folder.  It seems that it doesn't install it nor does it recognize it.  I am not sure how to find out what it wrong as it doesn't throw any errors.

Does anyone have any ideas how to diagnose this issue or does anyone have any good documentation on developing a visualizer just incase I have done something wrong.

Did you create this Visualizer from scratch? Or did you copy an existing one and use that as a base (which I recommend). The Visualizer is recognized by the presence of the DesktopModules/Reports/Visualizers/[VisualizerName]/App_LocalResources/Visualizer.ascx.resx file and the "VisualizerName.Text" key (which must contain the name of the Visualizer).

If you want to be able to install the Visualizer, you must create a manifest file and a ZIP package. Until better documentation is available (I'm hoping to start a Wiki with some documentation content very soon), you can use the Chart or Reporting Services Visualizers (in DesktopModules/Reports/Install/Visualizers) as a guide.

I did start with the Grid visualizer to make sure I got all the proper base files.  I made all the changes to namespace, classes, txt in the resx, etc.  Created the manifest, etc.  It all seems to be correct, but it just doesn't seem to recognize it.

Yes, some documentation would be great, even on the HTML visualizer.  I'd be interested in that.

Hmm...that is strange. Would you be able to zip up your Visualizer code and email it to me (andrew.nurse@dotnetnuke.com)? It would of course remain completely confidential. I really want to get all the kinks worked out of the Visualizer/Data Source system so that we can start to build a library of 1st and 3rd-party Add-Ins to the module.

Anyway, if that's not possible, I fully understand. I'll review the Module Add-In code and see what else could be stopping it from being detected.

This is for a public Website for the Car Club I founded, so I have no problem sharing the code and will definitely share it once everything is completed.  I will email that right over.  Please feel free to be honest in what you see.  I did a quick coding of it to try and get it working and will be working on cleaning up the entire thing before publishing it.
