There are a lot of menus out there to use.  I know that the SolPartMenu will not allow you to do this.  I am not sure about the DNNMenu though.  It is at:

http://webcontrols.dotnetnuke.com

I may be wrong, but I believe that all of the menus that will allow you to do that are not free.  For instance, I use the telerik menu for DNN, and it does indeed allow this functionality.  But the control is not free.

well i would go with an unordered list based on snapsis.com css menu

This will allow you to make all kind of menus based on unorderd list and because of its template engine you can define how you wantthe ul and li to be generated so with ids classes etc.

You could then make something like

ul

li id="tab1"

li id="tab2"

li id="tab3"

then you need to style it in css as

#tab1

{background-color:red;

}

#tab2

{

background-clor:lime;

}

#tab3

{

background-color:orange

}

you can also use telerik radmenu for this but this is the cheaper option. and using the snapsis menu you can recreate any jquery, mootools, scriptacuous etc based menu sample you find online and recreate in a dnn environment
