Hi,
i was looking for a good CMS for ASP, and I found indirectly Dotnetnuke.
First: why donetnuke is decribed on official page as a "a Web Application Framework". I searched everywhere, and didn't found the word the CMS.
Is it fundamuntally different from a CMS ?

Second: it's the first time I work with ASP. Do I need Visual Studio to take advantage of
Dotnetnuke ?

Also do I have to download every module I need, or are the most important already  built-in  with dotnetnuke? (especially I consider the iframe module as an important one)

And finally: I have a ready  css-based template for my website, will it takes lot of time to adapt it to dotnetnuke ?

thanks in advance

  1. Many People expect a release workflow for content from a cms and some staging - this is not part of DNN default configuration. on the other hand, DNN can be used to access foreign data sources and nearly anything, that you can develop in ASP.Net, can be integrated in a portal.
  2. You only need Visual Studio (or another development environment), if you want to create your own modules or tweak the core.
  3. There are a couple of basic modules already included with the core, but there are many, many enhancements and individual modules from DNN project teams and 3rd party developers. There are even enhanced versions of core modules available as separate download - e.g. UserDefinedTable.
  4. Without having seen your template it is difficult to guess the effort needed to convert it into a DNN skin and containers. Have a look into the skinning guide, that is included within the documentation pack, for further reference.
