Hi, I am new to DNN and was having a very difficult time installing DNN.

I am hoping to install DNN 3.2.2, and I am stuck at creating the database.

I have Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, however, when the documentation says to add a database, this is not even an option. There is just the SQL server group directory, which is empty.

When I installed SQL Server 2000, it said my OS was not compatible for the server functions and only client?

Sorry for the newbie questions. I am trying to use DNN for one of my CIS development projects. We are supposed to create a professional website, and I was hoping to use DNN on a local server (my laptop), while not deploying to the internet. Is this possible?

THANK YOU in advance for ANY help that can be provided to me!

You've got a buch of stuff to do before your ready to install DNN.  SQL Server EE will only install on a server version of windows.  So you won't be able to install it on your laptop.  The developer version of SQL server EE can be though so if you have a MSDN subscription or some other way of getting it that would be an option.  You can also use MSDE 2000 or SQL Express 2005.  Both of those are valid options for running in a dev environment on a laptop.

What actually installed in your case is the client software that comes with SQL Server and not the database it's self.  So what you are seeing is a program called Enterprise Manager you probably have visual query manager installed also.

You are also going to have to install IIS.  That is the web server that DNN runs under.

So get all of that together and then read through the DNN documentation, the PDF's in the download section. Get a good handle on creating a database with users and connecting with application connection strings.  Doing that will save you a lot of hair pulling later.  :)
