Following the time honored Mitch Sellers upgrade procedure (that worked fine on my own Win2003 server) to upgrade a remote 4.5.5 intallation hosted by easycgi, I received the following errors:

00:00:00.031 - Installing Version: 4.4.0
00:00:00.031 - Executing Script: DotNetNuke.SetUp.SqlDataProvider Success
00:00:00.125 - Executing Script: DotNetNuke.Schema.SqlDataProvider Error! (see DotNetNuke.Schema.log for more information)
00:00:11.734 - Executing Script: DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider Error! (see DotNetNuke.Data.log for more information)

I made a close comparison of the old web.config and the release.config with special attention given to the connections strings.  The installation date was also added to the release.config.  The upgrade crashed and I had to restore from backup.  EasyCGI support gave their usual (i don't know ask dotnetnuke).

Since this is remote, there must be security issues or something unseen.  Also couldn't figure out why it was trying to install version 4.4.0

I was going from 4.5.5 to 4.6.2 because I was successful with this upgrade on my own server.  Then I was going to go to 4.8 which was also successful on my own server.

Thanks ahead of time for any help:-)

It appears that the installer is not sensing that this is an upgrade rather than a fresh install.  Did the old web.config specify a value for the objectQualifier (which is found toward the end of web.config in the < dotnetnuke>< data defaultProvider="SqlDataProvider"> section? If so and it was different from that in the newly modified release.config, that would be a typical error.

If this is found to be the problem, it will be easier to roll back to your backup than to try to repair the damage to the database.

Also, did you check the two error logs that were mentioned. These will be found in the site's Providers/DataProviders/SqlDataProvider folder.

As Bill mentioned it appears that for one reason or another it did not identify the site as an upgrade.

I would look at the error log that was created as that might give you a bit of insight as to weather or not it was actually trying to install over the top of the existing database or if it was a new database issue.

Additionally I would triple check the connection strings.  Also, did you have an object qualifier that you set in the web.config?

ObjectQualifier !!!  That must be it!  I'll give it another try.  Thanks:-)
