The Path 1 error. Are you trying to install the Active Directory provider? There's an error with that provider and 4.8. A fix is currently in release testing but if you need it there's a beta available on my site (http://dnn.gmss.org).

The process to get DNN running can be very frustrating as there are plenty of ambiguities.  As a newbie myself I recommend:

Install .net V2.0 (and it's SP1)
Install the IIS
Install SQL Express
Install DNN with the V4.0 installer (it does the webserver ISS part, sets up the db etc)
start DNN via the IE and if it works then Extract the latest version DNN into the folders
