How do I NOT use the SQL connection sting inside the web.config, but embedded within the code itself? Our company security policy does not allow for ANY SQL connection strings inside web.config, and going through the other posts, there does not seem to be a solution for encryption either.

Does your policy allow connection strings in web.config under a TrustedConnection scenario?  This is an interesting security policy in that it would seem to shift the onus onto protection of the source code, which would be harder ( IMHO ).  Not your policy I know, just curious.

I would take this question to the "Extend It!" forum... where guys doing more hands on module development can help you directly.

Not sure if you solved this, but if you are using .NET 2.0, you can encrypt the connection string and appSettings inside the web.config without touching code.

These articles should show you how:

Using RSA: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag2/html/paght000006.asp

Using DPAPI: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag2/html/paght000005.asp

Same proces, really, just different providers.

I have briefly tested it with DNN 3.2.2 running .NET 2.0 and it seems to work very well.

Hope this helps,

Ruprict
